about the cottage

Monks' Meadow Cottage is a superb stone built cottage situated in a wonderful rural setting at the bottom of an unspoilt valley, a quarter of a mile from the A624 on the western edge of the Peak District National Park. It is a safe location for children, and for your car, well away from traffic. The cottage and the owners' adjoining farmhouse date back 300 years and are mentioned in several guide/travellers books. There are excellent views across meadows to the surrounding hills - which include Cracken Edge, Kinder Scout, Chinley Head and Combs Edge. The cottage has been furnished and equipped to a very high standard and makes a cosy retreat at any time of the year. A great location for walking, or just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful Peak District countryside.

Monks' Meadow is a smallholding of 36 acres, situated at the western edge of the beautiful Peak District National Park.

There are excellent views from all windows across meadows to the surrounding hills.

Stock, including sheep, horses, goats, cats and a dog, with additional cattle in the summer period. Lambing and haymaking are always popular with guests.

Wildlife abounds in the area, since traditional farming techniques are still employed. Rabbit, hare, fox can commonly be seen, and you may also be lucky enough to see stoat, weasel or even a badger. The variety of habitat makes bird-watching a particularly attractive activity. Grouse, pheasant, heron and lapwing are regularly seen in the fields and kingfishers, corncrake, curlews and snipe are occasionally seen from the patio.
